# Goslarstvo Demšar

> The oldest luthier workshop in Slovenia. Three generations of violin makers since 1927. Handmade violins, violas and cellos from selected Slovenian wood, plus repair, restoration and rental for young musicians. Based at Žabjak 3, Ljubljana.

Goslarstvo Demšar is a family-run string-instrument workshop founded by Blaž Demšar Sr. in Sarajevo in 1927 and relocated to Žabjak in Ljubljana, Slovenia in 1938. It is led today by Blaž Demšar Jr. — the third generation, a wood-science engineer — who personally selects every log: Jelovica spruce for tops and Slovenian ripple maple for backs, sides and necks. Each violin takes 150+ hours of handwork; cellos 350+. The shop makes 10–15 instruments per year and also repairs, restores, appraises and rents string instruments.
