## History — three generations

### Blaž Demšar Sr. (b. 1903, Selca nad Škofjo Loko)
A carpenter by trade. Self-taught luthier. Began making violins in Sarajevo in 1927. By 1938 had made over a hundred violins; moved the family and workshop to Žabjak in Ljubljana. Founder of the oldest Slovenian luthier workshop.

### Vilim Demšar (1937–2017)
Eldest son of Blaž Sr. Violinist and luthier in parallel — member of the Slovenian Philharmonic, professor of violin, master maker. Took over the workshop after his father's death in 1981 and over four decades made over one thousand instruments. Made the word "demšarica" synonymous with quality. Handed the workshop to his nephew in 2015.

### Blaž Demšar Jr. (b. 1980, Ljubljana)
Son of a cellist, grandson of the founder. Engineer of wood science (Prešeren award 2004) — among the few Slovenian luthiers with formal scientific training in wood. Has led the workshop alone since 2015. Selects the logs personally — Jelovica spruce for the tops, Slovenian ripple maple for the backs. Current backlog: if he closed the order book today, he would still be making instruments on existing orders for two more years.
